The cornerstones of the philosophy programme at Georg Olms Verlag are the reprints and dictionaries of such notable philosophers as Christian Wolff, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Herrmann Cohen, which continue to appeal to readers and remain relevant, not least due to the fact that a majority of our reprints have been updated by the latest research findings. A prime example of this is the anthology of Christian Wolff’s works, Wolffiana. In addition to reprints, we also publish an ever-increasing number of first editions with a pronounced focus on contemporary philosophy.

Readers may also look forward to two of our most impactful series, ‘Europaea Memoria’ and ‘Studies and Materials on the History of Philosophy’ (original title: Studien und Materialien zur Geschichte der Philosophie). Split into two sections, studies and text editions, and comprising over 130 volumes, the decidedly interdisciplinary series, Europaea Memoria, gives the reader a comprehensive overview of the development of European thought. The series, Studies and Materials on the History of Philosophy, shines a spotlight on both ‘classic’ literature, such as the reception history and commentaries on Immanuel Kant’s works, as well as on critical questions in the field of ethics and morality.

The book series “Beiträge zur Geschichte, Theorie und Ethik der Medizin” publishes scholarly studies on the development of the healing arts and medical practice, philosophical questions concerning medicine as a scientific discipline, and normative issues in healthcare ethics. The series predates the establishment of the interdisciplinary field of History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine (GTE) in German universities and is particularly committed to publishing nuanced studies that situate medicine within its respective historical, political, epistemological, and moral contexts. Published under the title “Studies on History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine”, the series is bilingual and also welcomes volumes written in English.

Europaea Memoria – Studien und Texte zur Geschichte der europäischen Ideen

Die Schriftenreihe Europaea Memoria ist eine der beiden wichtigsten philosophischen Periodica im Programm des Georg Olms Verlags. Sie ist interdisziplinär ausgerichtet und bezieht Forschungsergebnisse aus der Geschichtswissenschaft, der Literaturwissenschaft und anderen benachbarten Fachgebieten mit ein. Dabei erscheinen in der Unterreihe „Studien“ vor allem Monographien und Sammelbände, während in der Unterreihe „Texte“ kanonische Werke der Philosophiegeschichte neu und häufig erstmalig ediert werden.

Diese Schriftenreihe widmet sich der komplexen Interpretations- und Rezeptionsgeschichte der aristotelischen Logik, die vor allem in der Textsammlung „Organon“ ihren Niederschlag gefunden hat. Ein Schwerpunkt der Veröffentlichungen liegt auf zeitgenössischen Deutungen in Regionen, die in philosophischen Fachdiskussionen bislang wenig Beachtung fanden, wie Osteuropa und Südamerika.
